Judge Oscar Rodriguez-Fonts was elected to the Florida 11th Circuit Court in 2016 and is currently assigned to the Civil Division. During his tenure on the bench, he also served in the Family Division and as the Criminal Division. Prior to taking the bench, Judge Rodriguez-Fonts tried cases as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Miami, as an Assistant Public Defender in Miami-Dade County and as a founding partner in the law firm of Alvarez Rodriguez-Fonts, LLP.
Before attending law school, Judge Rodriguez-Fonts worked for nearly eight years in the United States House of Representatives as a Congressional Aide for two Members of Congress.
Judge Rodriguez-Fonts is a member of the Florida Bar, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the Cuban American Bar Association. Over the years, he has served in various community organizations. Some of his community involvement includes the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, the City of Miami Code Enforcement Board, the Miami-Dade County Public Defender’s Redemption Project, and the Florida Bar Grievance Committee, where he served as a past Chair.
Judge Rodriguez-Fonts earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Florida State University in 1986 and graduated from the University of Miami School of Law in 1999. He was born and raised in the Greater Miami area and has been a lifelong resident of Miami-Dade County.
